Dear Slate Valley Families,
The Cross-State Travel map changed again today and many of the NY counties that border Vermont now require a 14 day quarantine if you travel there for non-essential activity. This includes Washington, Essex, Warren and Saratoga Counties.
Please know that as a school district we are required to enforce these rules by the Department of Health. This means that if your child travels to any of these areas for non-essential activities such as but not limited to apple picking, dance lessons, sports, funerals, etc they will be required to quarantine and will not be allowed to attend school in person.
If you have a question regarding this please call the Vermont Department of Health or visit the website https://accd.vermont.gov/covid-19/restart/cross-state-travel.

Update on tonight's AWAY Varsity Football game @ Middlebury (9/29):
Parents will NOT receive physical tickets for this game, instead Middlebury will be using our varsity football roster. Each athlete has (2) tickets available to them which can be claimed at admissions. Parents will have to state which athlete they are there for when they arrive. Once the (2) tickets are claimed, no additional tickets can be claimed for that athlete.

With our first FHUHS Athletic events starting up tomorrow, please make sure to review the Spectator Policies for away games. Each school has their own Spectator Policy which can be found on the opposing school's website, or by going to the Fair Haven Union High School Website under the tab For Parents, and clicking on the Spectator Policies folder.
Games this weekend will be held at Brattleboro and BBA. Below you can find each of their Spectator Policies:
BBA COVID-19 Spectator Policy:
This spectator policy applies to all athletic competitions hosted by Burr and Burton with the exception of those held at Applejack Stadium. (AJ tickets will be sold on a first come/first serve basis beginning 1 week prior to the event. Please see https://manchestervt.brushfire.com/events for AJ tickets).
Each member of a BBA athletic team will receive 2 season passes. ADs of opposing schools will be mailed a set of guest passes (2 per athlete) to distribute to their fans.
There will be a limited number of day passes available for students, employees, and community members on a first come first serve basis. They will be offered 30 minutes before game time until they are gone.
BBA will mark out a spectator zone for each of our venues that do not have gated entrances.
Only people with passes may be inside the spectator zone. Spectators will be required to produce a pass when asked. Those who cannot must leave the area.
All spectators must wear facial coverings upon arrival at the sports field. They must be worn until spectators have left the sports field.
Spectators from different households must physically distance at least 6 feet from each other.
There are no bleachers at our facilities (except Applejack Stadium). Spectators who wish to sit should bring their own chairs/blankets.
Hand sanitizer and handwashing stations will be available. Spectators will NOT have access to BBA buildings. Portable toilets will be available on site.
Brattleboro Union High School Spectator Policy - Fall 2020
Entry for spectators will begin 30 minutes before the posted start time of each game. Upon arrival, spectators should report to the “ticket gate” located in the faculty parking lot between the two fields.
Spectators will be limited to immediate family members, including grandparents, of those students participating at that specific event. Family attendance allowances at this time will be limited to four (4) spectators per BUHS participant/coach and two (2) spectators per visiting team participant/coach.
A will call list for BUHS family members will be located at the ticket gate, and attendance will be kept for contact tracing purposes. A roster provided by each visiting school will also be located at the ticket gate- visiting families will check-in, indicate which player that they are there for and provide contact information.
BUHS asks that all participants and families attending events adhere to the following protocols to help reduce the spread of COVID-19:
There will be no fee to enter but spectators must sign-in before entering the field.
Self-screen before attending. If you feel ill, please do not attend.
Wear a facial covering upon arrival at our facility, during the game, and until departed. Bandanas are not an approved facial covering.
Spectators failing to comply with the face covering requirement will need to leave the facility and jeopardize future attendance at games, both for themselves and others.
Establish and maintain properly physical and /social distancing (at least six feet).
Family groups may sit together with less than the required physical distance, but six feet of distance should exist between groups from different households.
Other than the participating teams (and JV teams), sideline access will be limited to necessary game administration staff, and credentialed members of the media, who will undergo a health screening if they wish to have access to the team areas.
Tenney and Sawyer Field will not have bleachers so spectators who wish to sit should bring their own chairs/blankets.
Spectators will not have access to BUHS buildings. Portable toilets will be located on-site with a hand sanitizing station located at the ticket gate.
Parents who bring younger children to the game are responsible for keeping those children close at hand as their own ability to maintain proper distancing may be limited.
As always, spectators are expected to behave with appropriate sportsmanship.
All spectators are required to leave the area once the game is complete. All athletes needing rides should be met in the parking lot. Nobody should be waiting on or near the field.
Parking/Access for games at Natowich Field or Tenney Field
Parking for games on Natowich or Tenney Field will be located in the student parking lot across the street from the high school. After walking across the street, spectators should go to the “ticket gate” located in the faculty parking lot between the two fields. After checking in, those going to Tenney Field will enter the first gate along the fence and watch the game from the sideline area closest to the faculty parking lot, opposite the team's sidelines. Spectators going to Natowich Field will proceed up the first ramp of the field’s grandstand. The main aisle will be marked as one-way only, with the second ramp serving as the exit ramp. The first three rows of the Natowich Field grandstand will be closed. Bleacher rows will be marked with two black strips of tape...families are asked only to group and sit in a space between two strips of tape.. Also, BUHS spectators are asked to sit in the first, second and third bleacher sections while spectators from visiting schools should proceed to the last two sections of the bleachers, closest to the exit ramp.
Parking/Access for games at Sawyer Field
Parking for games on Sawyer Field will be located in the WRCC parking lot or adjacent church parking lot. Spectators should enter the gate located in the WRCC parking lot and watch the game from the sideline area or hill closest to the parking lot, opposite the team’s sidelines.

Club cheer practice today (9/25) has been cancelled.

The JV Football game at BBA on Monday, September 28th has been moved to a 4 pm start time.

Dear Fair Haven Union High School Community,
It was just announced in the Governor's Press Conference that Vermont schools will be allowed to operate in Stage III starting this Saturday, September 26th. For us in Slate Valley, this means that beginning this weekend we will be allowing athletic contests.
You can find the complete game and practice schedule on our FHUHS Athletic website:
https://svuvt.gofmx.com/calendar?buildings=132282&requesttypes=105076&requesttypes=105077&requesttypes=105074
Our first home game will be on September 28th @ 6 PM. Varsity Boys Soccer vs. Mill River.
Spectators may arrive up to 1 hour prior to game time to begin the screening process. Our limit is still (150) spectators. Each student-athlete (home and away) will be allowed 2 spectators. The rest of the open spots will be given on a first come first serve basis.
Masks and social distancing are required by all while on school grounds. Anyone who does not comply will be removed from the game.
You can find the rest of the FHUHS COVID - 19 Spectator Protocols & Procedures on the Slate Valley website.
Spectator policies for away games can be found on the Slate Valley website as well under FHUHS, For Parents, Away Game Spectator Policies.

Dear Slate Valley Families,
It was just announced in the Governor's Press Conference that Vermont schools will be allowed to operate in Stage III starting this Saturday, September 26th. For us in Slate Valley, this means that beginning this weekend we will be allowing athletic contests. Generally, speaking there are minimal changes between Stage II and Stage III in the school reopening guidance. As such, in all other areas we will be remaining status quo for the time being. We are doing well in no small part to the staff, students and community’s cooperation and we want to keep it that way. In the coming days and weeks I will be sending out further communication on changes you may see after 2 weeks in Stage III.
I know that the cross-state travel map has been frustrating for some families and I completely understand. Please know that as a school district we are compelled to follow requirements put forth by the State of Vermont. The map is now being updated on Tuesdays so families can plan their activities for the coming weekend. Please note that Washington County, NY is now off the map. However, Warren and Saratoga Counties in NY are still on the map so please, please plan your travel accordingly. We do not want to be in a position of asking your child to remain home from in-person learning. This does not benefit anyone. If you have questions please refer to the website: https://accd.vermont.gov/covid-19/restart/cross-state-travel/faqs and/or call the Vermont Department of Health. Also, according to the Vermont Department of Health apple picking is a leisure activity. I know this was not clear to a lot of families over the weekend.
Furthermore, we are so grateful for our school nurses. They truly have borne the brunt of the questions and enforcement of the COVID protocols. Please know that they must follow the guidelines put forth from the Vermont Department of Health and as such everyone is doing the best that they can in this difficult situation.
As always, thank you for your continued support and cooperation during these trying times.
Be well,
Brooke Farrell, Superintendent
