Our very own Slater, Paityn Delong took 1st place this past Sunday 5/22 in the NY Freestyle State Championship. This means that Paityn is a 3 time state champion ( VT, NY and NH). Way to go, Paityn, Slater Nation is so proud of you!

FHUHS Spring Baseball/Softball Senior Day On Saturday, May 28th at 10:30 a.m. at FHUHS, we will be recognizing all Senior athletes on LaPlaca field. We will also be hosting and recognizing Otter Valley seniors. Parents, please feel free to decorate your athlete's baseball fence and bleachers. Ms. Partesi took her Art Club on a trip to the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art (Mass MoCA) in North Adams, MA. Students had fun exploring one of the largest contemporary art museums in the country!

Mr. Merolle's Horticulture class is learning what it takes to be a beekeeper! The school honeybees are installed and hard at work. We would like to give a special "THANK YOU!" to Tom Duncan (for graciously volunteering his time and expertise) and the Vermont Energy Education Program (VEEP) for their financial grant contrbution to help make beekeeping at FHU a reality!

On Tuesday, May 24th, we will be holding our final middle school informational evening in the form of an FHUMS Ice Cream Social.  The event will begin by serving ice cream snacks at 5:00 pm, and then move into an informational session, at 5:30 pm, to discuss topics such as band and chorus, construction progress, as well as a time to answer any questions you may have about the middle school.  This evening event will be a follow-up to the student fieldtrip earlier in the afternoon.  We are excited to have all of our grade schools visiting FHU during the school day on May 24th.  We are planning opportunities for students to meet their teachers, spend time with their advisory class ("homeroom"), meet new friends, participate in fun team-building activities, and enjoy a BBQ lunch together.  Overall, we feel the 24th will be a great opportunity for students and families alike! The 41st Annual Vermont Congressional Art Competition is a statewide art competition accepting work from high school students across Vermont. Every spring, participating Members of Congress sponsor high school arts competition in their districts. On Thursday, May 5 Richard Baptie and John Tester from the Crippen Fellows American Legion Post 50 presented Fair Haven Union High School's athletic program with a new American Flag for the Baseball/Softball Fields. The flag was presented to: Varsity Baseball players Connor Fisher and Kyle James and Varsity Softball players Veronica Redondo and Maddy Egan. FHUHS would like to Thank the American Legion for their generosity and for supporting Athletics at FHUHS.

The FHU Theater Team performed their student-written plays in front of a live, interactive audience at Wednesday's Celebration of Learning. They are preparing to take the plays to Benson, Orwell, Castleton, and Fair Haven's grade schools on June 2nd. Based on the expressions of the FHU audience, we believe the grade school students are going to absolutely love the shows!

We would like to thank all of the participants in yesterday’s 1st Annual Career Fair! Over 25 Vermont companies and organizations as well as several branches of the military participated. The FHUHS gym was filled with tables and displays from local employers as well as several from throughout the state. The State of Vermont Agency of Transportation, Department of Labor, and Department of Agriculture presented information to students about careers, on the job training opportunities and the future of hemp in Vermont. Casella Construction challenged students to test their skills of loading and unloading remote controlled bucket loaders with dirt in an indoor display at their booth. Other employers present included: Bayada Home Health Care, BreadLoaf Corporation, Brown's Auto Salvage, Casella Waste Systems, Castleton University, Community Health, GE Aviation, JaniTech, Job Corp, Killington/Pico Ski Resort, Lake Bomoseen Lodge and Tap House, Mountain View Center/Genesis, OMYA, Inc, Rutland Regional Medical Center, The Binding Site, VELCO, Vermont Rail System, and Woodstock Inn. Military recruiters included: US Air Force, VT Air National Guard, US Army, VT Army National Guard, and US Marine Corps.
