Last Friday, the Outdoor Pursuits Class went on a four mile hike up Snake Mountain to see some pretty amazing views. The day provided perfect weather with just a little wind on top; nothing the students couldn’t handle. All enjoyed a “silent solo sit” at the top to be in the moment, enjoy where they were and connect with themselves.

The Lake George North East Instrumental Music Festival trip was a success! Students went above and beyond in their dedication to music and had a wonderful performance on Sunday, November 19th. There were great solos from Ayame Merkel (flute), Clara Young (Piccolo), Emmet MacKay (euphonium), and Nikolai Wood (timpani). When you see any of our 11 students that attended the trip, please congratulate them on a job well done!

On November 13th and 14th, five fantastic FHUHS student athletes attended the Athletic Leadership Conference in Burlington. The students were Max Kyhill, Jack Almeida, Amelia Munger, Rowan Kuehn and Kate Hadwen. They participated in round table discussions, icebreakers and activities with other student athletes around the state of VT. Our five students represented FHUMHS with such respect and integrity. Go Slaters!!!!

The Class of 2026 hosted a Turkey Bingo on Saturday. It was a huge success!

Our students are wonderfully representing FHUHS at the North East Instrumental Music Festival. They all placed well in auditions, and many became leaders in their sections!
The concert is this Sunday, November 19th, at 1:00PM at the Marriott Hotel in Lake George, NY. All are welcome to attend.
Go Slaters!

SVU teachers, who are also alumni of Castleton University, came together to share their experiences in the field with two Vermont State University-Castleton classes. The classes were comprised of future educators who are either currently doing their student teaching or will be in the spring.
The panel of Slate Valley teachers responded to the following prompts:
What surprised you about teaching during your first few years?
What successes have you experienced in teaching, and what allowed for your success?
What do you wish you knew before you had your own classroom?
What advice do you have for those who are soon to enter teaching?
It was another great collaboration between Slate Valley and Castleton University.

YOUTH * LEADERSHIP * OPPORTUNITY
The Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership program allows students (currently in 10th grade) to attend a four-day leadership seminar May 23, 2024 to May 26, 2024. Students will participate in leadership activities, meet leaders of Vermont, and explore their own personal leadership skills, while learning how to lead others and make a positive impact in your community. From the moment they attend a HOBY program, they will be treated like a leader and encouraged to think critically about a wide range of issues that impact their life and the world.
If your student(s) are interested in being one of our HOBY Ambassadors, please have them write a short 1-2 paragraph statement about why they would like to attend. Submit it to the Guidance Office on or before Friday, December 1st. The counselors will then have brief conversations with your student(s) and select 2 of them to be the FHU representatives. The cost of the program is free to the students, however, they will need transportation to and from the event.
Students should visit their School Counselor in the Guidance Office if they have any questions.

AP Psychology students recently completed the Other Human Senses Lab where they were asked to use their senses to solve some mysteries! For example, they were asked to determine what was in a cup by only sniffing the hole in the top. Or determining the color/flavor of a Skittle they were eating while closing their eyes and holding their nose. One station also required them to blindly reach into a bag and determine what they were feeling (this had a "spooky" theme in honor of Halloween).

Celebrating the Class of 2024 with our first Senior Spotlight - Timothy Kendall! Stay tuned for more features in the coming weeks! We hope to highlight each of our seniors!

Today, students from Ms. Ransom’s class made a Thanksgiving meal for invited Slate Valley guests. The students created the menu, did the shopping, prepared and cooked the entrées, sent out hand made invitations, set the table, served the meal, and even did all the cleaning up. It was a fabulous feast!

Another wonderful lunch with the superintendent! Today Ms. Olsen-Farrell and Mr. O'Meara enjoyed dynamic conversation with some FHU Middle School students.

Good Afternoon,
FHUMHS Students did a fantastic job with our ALICE Options-Based Drill. Thank you for supporting our school safety, and (as always) please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.
