Yesterday, some middle and high school students who participated in the new FFA (Future Farmers of America) program traveled to this year's State Convention. Four of our high school students competed in the Dairy Cattle Evaluation contest and placed 2nd overall! This is quite an accomplishment for a dedicated group who had never competed before. Congratulations to Julia C., Storm G., Emilee H., and Breanna M. This group will be advancing to the regional competition at the Eastern States Exposition! All of our students exhibited tremendous cooperation and resiliency and were a fantastic portrayal of how we should represent ourselves, our school, and our community. Way to go Slaters!

Mr. Schwaner's Engineering in the Community class created, and tested, long bows as a primitive archery challenge assignment. The long bows were made from harvested timber and paracord. The arrows were made using a 36" round dowel, pencil top erasers, and duct tape. The students did a great job.

Dear FHUMHS Families, The safety and well-being of our students and staff is always our top priority, therefore I felt it pertinent to inform you about a safety concern that was addressed this afternoon. It came to our attention today, Wednesday, May 10th, that we had students in possession of a loaded handgun on school property. The handgun was reported to be in a student’s vehicle on Monday, May 8th. Upon learning this today, we immediately notified law enforcement, who responded to this situation, and we are in contact with the students’ families. There is no known threat to students or staff at this time. We are taking this incident very seriously. Per our school policy, weapons of any kind are not allowed on school property. If you ever learn of any potential safety concerns, please let us know. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out. Sincerely, Brooke Olsen-Farrell Superintendent
