During last night's Slate Valley Unified Union school board meeting, FHGS K/1 looping teachers gave an impressive presentation about their "Shift in Literacy Instruction". Please click the link and take a look, the presentation starts at 1:37. Thank you to Jared Danyow, Courtney Grenier and Teann McCrea for your enthusiasm and for sharing this important information. Just another example of the great things happening at Slate Valley!

SVU teachers, who are also alumni of Castleton University, came together to share their experiences in the field with two Vermont State University-Castleton classes. The classes were comprised of future educators who are either currently doing their student teaching or will be in the spring.
The panel of Slate Valley teachers responded to the following prompts:
What surprised you about teaching during your first few years?
What successes have you experienced in teaching, and what allowed for your success?
What do you wish you knew before you had your own classroom?
What advice do you have for those who are soon to enter teaching?
It was another great collaboration between Slate Valley and Castleton University.
Today Castleton college students visited our 5th grade classes to test out activities of teaching local history and archeology. Small groups rotated throughout the room to participate in various hands-on activities. They had a blast learning about the history within our community!
This morning at CES: Bridges Math Work Stations in Mr. Hackett's Kindergarten with special guest Superintendent, Ms. Olsen-Farrell.
Mr. DeMatties has formed a partnership with Young At Heart Senior Center. Last month, his students put together new picnic tables for the residents, made them centerpieces and cleaned up the yard. Go, 6th graders!
Yesterday two of our faculty were celebrated at the University of Vermont's Outstanding Educator Day. Congratulations to Shannan Mead and Nate Morris for their acknowledgement of being UVM Teachers of the Year!

All Slate Valley Schools will be closed today due to the weather. Typically this would have been a delayed start, but because it is a scheduled half day we need to just cancel. Parent teacher conferences will be rescheduled.
Yesterday, 6th graders learned about the Revolutionary War. Our thanks to Lorraine Brown and Walter Sperr from the Fair Haven Historical Society for being here and sharing incredible stories from that time in American history.
Yesterday, 6th graders raked the leaves around CES. It's fun and community-minded at the same time! Thanks, 6th graders!
Enjoy the video shown at Friday's assembly, highlighting our 5th grade.

Last Friday, first graders visited Vermont State University’s Castleton Campus. The university's students, who are studying Physical Science for Elementary Teachers, prepared activities for our students to help them learn about light and sound.
